Regenerative livestock farming and integrated systems in the carbon market
From theory to practice case study Fazenda Coisa Boa
This eBook delves into the opportunities offered by integrated production systems and regenerative livestock farming within the context of the carbon market. Based on a real-life case study—the Coisa Boa Farm in Maranhão—the material provides an educational presentation of the technical, economic, and environmental foundations that underpin a new approach to rural production.
Throughout the chapters, the reader is guided through topics such as financial returns over multiple timeframes, the ecological functions of forest species, the generation of carbon credits, traceability technologies, regenerative practices adapted to the biome, the challenges of research with native species, and strategies for scaling sustainable solutions in the field.
The content was developed by the ESGpec team based on the livestream "ILPF 75 – Regenerative Livestock and the Carbon Market: from theory to practice," led by Ronaldo Trecenti with the participation of Prof. Rogério Maurício (UFSJ/GASL) and veterinarian Mauroni Cangussú, technical manager of the farm studied. The material is complemented by guidelines from the international publication "Natural Regeneration of Native Trees for the Implementation of Silvopastoral Systems," a technical reference for the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (FAO).
